Privacy Policy — AI Chess

Effective date: 12 July 2026

AI Chess (“the app”, “we”, “us”), published by AiDigiApps, is a chess app for iOS. It lets you play and analyze chess against the app's own built-in engines, against a cloud AI using your own API key, or against a chess model that runs entirely on your device. This policy explains what data the app handles and how. AI Chess is built to keep your data on your device and under your control.

In short: There is no account and no sign-in. When you choose a cloud AI, the chess position is sent directly to the provider you pick, using your key — we don't operate that model or receive your data on our servers. The on-device model works fully offline. We don't sell your data, run ads, or use third-party trackers.

Information the app handles

AI provider API keys (BYOK)

To play against a cloud AI, you supply your own API key for the provider you select (for example OpenAI, Anthropic, xAI, Google, Meta, Microsoft, DeepSeek, or Moonshot). Keys are stored in the iOS Keychain on your device and are sent only to that provider to authenticate your requests. We never receive or store your keys on our servers.

Chess positions sent for AI moves

When you play against, or request a hint from, a cloud AI, the app sends the current board position, the recent move list, and the legal moves for that turn directly to the AI provider you chose so it can return a move. That processing is governed by that provider's own privacy policy. We are not a party to it and do not receive or retain that data. The app sends no personal information (such as your name) to providers.

On-device AI model

If you choose the on-device engine, the chess model runs entirely on your device — nothing about your game is sent anywhere while you use it. The model file itself is downloaded once, on your request, from a public model host (Hugging Face); that download is a standard file transfer and contains no personal data about you.

Built-in engines

The app's own from-scratch chess engines run fully offline on your device and send no data anywhere.

Local settings and saved games

Your preferences, optional player name, and any games you save (as PGN files) are stored locally on your device. When you Save or E-mail a game, iOS's own share sheet or Mail composer opens and you choose where it goes; the app does not transmit those files on its own.

Purchases

AI Chess is free to install, with an optional auto-renewable subscription (monthly or yearly) for full access, each including a 14-day free trial that starts when you begin the subscription. The subscription is processed by Apple's In-App Purchase. We do not receive or store your payment card or financial details. Whether a subscription is active is determined on your device from your Apple account entitlement, and no separate account is created with us.

Catalog requests to AiDigiApps

The app fetches a small model-pricing list and on-device model catalog from aidigiapps.com so it can show up-to-date prices and available models. These are simple downloads and send no personal data. Standard web-server logs (such as IP address) may be recorded by the host as part of serving the file; we do not use them to identify or track you.

Diagnostics

The app does not include third-party analytics or advertising SDKs and does not track you across apps or websites.

How information is used

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for their marketing.

Data sharing

Data retention and deletion

Children

AI Chess is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Security

API keys are stored in the iOS Keychain. Network requests use HTTPS/TLS. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we use standard, industry-accepted protections.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy; the “Effective date” above will change accordingly. Material changes will be reflected here.
